Lee Bailey
F Lee Bailey was an aggressively self-promoted lawyer known for representing high-profile clients such as Hearst Heiress Patty Hearst and former NFL star OJ Simpson. On Thursday morning in Georgia he died at age 87.
After graduating from Kimball Union Academy, a private school in New Hampshire, Bailey joined the Marines as a legal officer before enrolling at Boston University Law School – an institution which recognized his military experience in lieu of college credentials – for legal studies.
Bailey first rose to prominence when, in 1966, he successfully convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Sam Sheppard’s murder conviction by challenging polygraph test results – something which earned him national renown and won him an acquittal. Later he used this knowledge of polygraph testing against George Edgerly who had been accused of dismembering and killing his wife – also with successful results, winning an acquittal by challenging polygraph results against Edgerly’s accuser George Edgerly’s.
Alan Dershowitz
Alan Dershowitz is an American lawyer and professor of law who has been described as the nation’s “most peripatetic civil liberties defender”, “America’s top Jewish defender”, and the world’s best-known criminal defense attorney. Known as the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard, Dershowitz graduated from Brooklyn College and Yale Law School with distinction, clerking for Judge David Bazelon and Justice Arthur Goldberg respectively en route. Additionally he wrote several books such as Reversal of Fortune: Inside von Bulow Case (1985), Chutzpah (1996), Reasonable Doubts: OJ Simpson Trial and Criminal Justice System (1996 ).
He served on OJ Simpson’s legal team during his 1995 murder trial for killing his ex-wife and her friend; it became one of the most watched trials ever conducted.
Robert Shapiro
After Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s deaths, Robert Shapiro replaced Howard Weitzman as OJ Simpson’s defense attorney and was instrumental in creating his Dream Team and developing their defense strategy. His cross-examination of Mark Fuhrman proved pivotal throughout the trial.
Shapiro first gained fame as a celebrity lawyer by representing athletes like Jose Canseco and Daryl Strawberry before taking on O.J. Simpson’s case. To start the investigation off right, Shapiro built rapport with LAPD officers to ensure a peaceful surrender of Simpson, instead of his arrest.
Shapiro transitioned away from criminal defense after representing O.J. Carl Douglas
Carl Douglas gained prominence after being included on OJ Simpson’s Dream Team of lawyers, and in particular after their successful defense at trial. Prior to that he had worked alongside Johnnie Cochran in trials. Carl is widely considered one of the finest trial attorneys today.
He is also a singer with a top 30 hit on the UK charts. More recently he has made headlines due to his lawsuit against Kanye West.
Carl Douglas has represented celebrities like Jamie Foxx, Michael Jackson and Queen Latifah.
